Why Was the Atom Bomb So Devastating?
The Atom Bomb was not just catastrophic because of its ability to level entire cities but also there were lingering damages associated with it that came from the radiation poisoning and leukemia that followed in its wake. It was only after the bombs were dropped on Japan that we truly started to see the repercussions of our actions. For example, we started to see children born with missing or contorted limbs. Not only does this disfigure the child, it can damage their brain and limit their lifespan as well. In addition to affecting the unborn children, the nuclear fallout also reached many people that were well out of the blast radius by giving them Leukemia. Leukemia is a form of cancer that slowly poisons your blood until you die. In Japan, many people from all over found themselves with this disease all due to the nuclear fallout.
